In organic wine production, a foundational principle is the avoidance of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. This practice is rooted in the philosophy of organic farming, which emphasizes sustainability, environmental health, and the natural balance of ecosystems. By refraining from using synthetic chemicals, organic winemakers aim to preserve the integrity of the vineyard soil, promote biodiversity, and avoid harmful impacts on the surrounding environment. This method encourages the use of natural alternatives such as compost, organic fertilizers, and biological pest control methods, which contribute to healthier vine growth and grape development while reflecting the organic production standards recognized in various certification processes.

The correct answer emphasizes a core tenet of organic agriculture that prioritizes natural interventions over synthetic ones, thus maintaining a healthier vineyard ecosystem and ultimately producing quality wines that are free from chemical residues.
